St. James Fire Department Picnic

St. James Fire Department Picnic

The St. James Fire Department Board of Directors hosted its 2nd annual picnic on Saturday, June 7th at the Woodlands Park Pavilion. The purpose was to show their appreciation to our volunteers and their families who provide Fire & Emergency Services throughout the St. James Fire District.

We are very proud of our volunteers who spend time away from their families to train weekly and respond to emergencies. The SJFD all-volunteer department has 100 volunteers who staff many fire suppression apparatus and 2 BLS ambulances 24/7. Through May, Firefighters responded to 120 alarms with 1,780 volunteer responses. EMS responded to 394 calls with 51 transports to area hospitals generating 1,802 responses. Our Fire Police volunteers answered the call to 402 incidents with 1,920 responses.

The festivities began with Lt. Dennis Ryan playing his bagpipes to welcome the guests. A special thank you to our supporters: Smokehouse BBQ who catered the meal, Chuck's Ice Cream who provided homemade ice cream, musical entertainment by "Double Cherry Pie," and Cape Fear Radio's Chris Cadman. After the meal, lawn game competitions were held on the pavilion lawn.

A special shout-out to the SJFD Recruitment Committee for their planning efforts and for implementing all activities. Events like this are a reminder that the strength of SJFD isn't just in our training and equipment — it's in the people.
